Our Mission

Worker Safety

The mission of UK Health & Safety is to provide a safe and healthful campus for employees, students, and visitors to work and study. This requires more than just complying with regulations and guidelines. The programs, audits and activities that OHS staff members engage in are all part of an overall system designed to help prevent injuries and illnesses: anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control.

Industrial Hygiene

The University of Kentucky Occupational Health & Safety Division is committed to providing work, study, and research environments that are free from recognized hazards that could cause serious physical harm to employees, students, and visitors.

Ergonomics

Ergonomics is the science and study of work, work methods, and the influences that the work environment has on job performance. Application of ergonomic principles in the design of the workplace can improve a work environment’s safety, productivity, and efficiency. Occupational Health & Safety's Ergonomics Program partners with other University groups to promote practices that improve worker health and safety as well as speedy workforce returns from job related injuries. If you would like to schedule a customized ergonomics training program for your area or need an ergonomics assessment email Marty Dagostino.

The department also conducts fume hood inspections, indoor air quality investigations, accident investigations, and assists units with general safety procedures, such as ladder safety, chemical storage safety, electrical safety, and construction safety.
