In accordance with ANSI/AIHA Z9.5, all chemical fume hoods must be equipped with a control (flow) monitor that can provide the user a real-time status of the fume hood's airflow. Some are more sophisticated than others including a digital readout displayed, other ambient measurements like temperature, and displayed error messages. Control monitors with digital displays must have a readout within 10% of the true airflow. Every control monitor should have a visual and audible alarm as well as a standard operation, or normal, status, typically represented with a green light.
